Supper Club Celebrating the Music of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand Comes to Hillsboro
The Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council is pleased to announce the Happy Days Are Here Again! Supper Club, featuring Portland musical theater legends Merideth Kaye Clark and Susannah Mars, on Saturday, November 9, 2019. Taking place at the Walters Cultural Arts Center (527 East Main Street, Hillsboro), the cabaret show celebrates the life and music of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. A benefit for the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Endowment to support non-profit arts organizations and individual artists in Hillsboro, the evening begins at 5:30 with a hosted cocktail hour, followed by dinner and a dessert dash before the show. Tickets are $125.
In 1963, the same year that a young Barbra Streisand released her Grammy-winning first album, she appeared on The Judy Garland Show and performed a duet with the show host. The medley of Happy Days Are Here Again and Get Happy—by two of the 20th century’s most iconic voices—became an instant classic and the inspiration for this very special Supper Club more than 50 years later.
Merideth Kaye Clark has played definitive leading theatrical roles nationwide, such as Elphaba in the First National Tour of Wicked, Eva Perón in Evita (Northern Stage), Nancy in Oliver! (5th Avenue Theatre), and has originated roles in two off-Broadway musicals. She is a sought-after concert artist described as “plain astonishing” and “a masterful performer” with “powerhouse pipes.”
Susannah Mars is a resident artist at Artists Repertory Theatre and has also appeared with the Portland Opera in Sweeney Todd, as Golde in Fiddler on the Roof at Portland Center Stage, and performed with Portland Playhouse. She has been described as, “the golden girl of Portland’s musical theater scene.”
Mars and Clark will be accompanied by pianist David Saffert, who was recently taken the stage as Liberace in Liberace & Liza: A Tribute.Tickets can be purchased online at BrownPaperTickets.com, by calling 503-615-3485, or in person at 527 E. Main St., Hillsboro. For more information about the Supper Club or about the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Endowment, visit www.Hillsboro-Oregon.gov/HACC.
