Fall Street Tree Leaf Collection Begins Friday, November 1

Post Date:10/23/2019

Help reduce flooding caused by clogged catch basins and keep the more than 230 miles of Hillsboro’s streets clean during the City of Hillsboro Public Works Department’s annual Fall Street Tree Leaf Pickup and Drop-off Program. Working together, we can also prevent debris from flowing downstream into water quality facilities and local waterways.

Curbside Leaf Pickup
Hillsboro's leaf pick-up truckThe curbside street tree leaf pickup season runs November 1 to December 31, 2019, in 10 districts across the City. In each district, crews will pick up leaves once in November, and again in December. Pickup schedules may change due to emergencies or severe weather.

To determine your leaf district and pickup dates:

  • Access the online leaf pickup map and schedule
  • Pick up a copy of the map and schedule at the Civic Center Utility Billing Office (150 East Main Street) or the Hillsboro Public Works Facility (4415 NE 30th Avenue)
  • Refer to the leaf collection flyer included with your City utility bill
  • Call 503-615-6509

Before each pickup date in your respective leaf collection district, rake loose street tree leaves into a long row (also known as a windrow), spaced 18 inches away from the curb to allow storm water to drain. It is important to keep leaf windrows less than three feet high, and not to block bike lanes, sidewalks, pathways, mailboxes, garbage collection areas, driveways, or intersections and cul-de-sacs with leaf piles.

Leaf Drop-off & Food Drive
The City will also offer two street tree leaf drop-off events for residents to haul and dispose of their loose leaves.

  • Location: Fairground Sports Complex, NE 28th Avenue and NE Veterans Drive (by the tennis courts)
  • Dates: Saturday, November 16, and Saturday, December 7, 2019
  • Time: 9:30 am – 3:30 pm

Only street tree leaves — no other yard debris — will be accepted. While loose leaves are preferred, you can bring leaf drop-offs in biodegradable paper bags, not plastic, for easier recycling.

During these drop-off events, the City will collect canned food and nonperishable item donations, including peanut butter, canned meats, soups, chili, and cooking oils. All donations go to the Oregon Food Bank, and stay in Washington County.
