Hillsboro Venue Grant Puts Community Center Stage

Post Date:11/15/2019 12:00 pm

Following last year’s successful trial of Venue Grants, the City of Hillsboro’s Cultural Arts Program is offering this year’s Venue Grantees the opportunity to be a part of the new Walters performance series, on select dates from October 2020 through April 2021. The performance series at the Walters Cultural Arts Center has always provided Washington County audiences diverse, exceptional concerts from local, regional, and national performers at accessible prices. For the 2020-2021 season, we are excited to announce expanded diverse and affordable performances, as well as welcoming the community to our stage by reserving dates in the series for Venue Grant applicants.

The goal of these grants is to not only support local performing artists and arts and culture organizations that serve Hillsboro residents, but also to foster a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community, while providing access to arts and cultural experiences for those who are underserved. According to Bridie Harrington, Cultural Arts Program Supervisor at the Walters, “We are looking forward to programming the Walters stage not only for our community, but with our community.”

The Venue Grants include ticketing, limited marketing, audiovisual support, and a facility supervisor on site. Non-profit organizations and cultural producers, as well as performing artists are eligible to apply. All performances must benefit a Hillsboro non-profit organization. Cultural Arts Manager Michele McCall-Wallace said, “We are asking that any Venue Grant applicant that is not a Hillsboro non-profit designate a local non-profit to receive 20% of the ticket proceeds as a way to give back to the community.” All Venue Grant applications are due by 5 p.m. on January 31, 2020.

The complete grant guidelines are now available at Hillsboro-Oregon.gov/HACC. Applications will be open beginning January 2, 2020 and will be available online or can also be picked up from the Walters Cultural Arts Center (527 East Main Street, Hillsboro). If you have any questions about the application process or about whether your performance or organization is eligible for a grant, call 503-615-3497 or email Melissa.Moore@Hillsboro-Oregon.gov.
