NE Jackson School Road Speed Limit Reduced for Safety

To protect the safety of motorists and work zone personnel, the City of Hillsboro will temporarily reduce the speed limit on NE Jackson School Road between NE 5th Avenue and NW Evergreen Parkway from 35 miles per hour (mph) to 25 mph, effective February 20, 2020.

This temporary speed limit reduction will remain in place until completion of the Jackson School Road Improvement Project, anticipated in winter 2022.

Drivers will be alerted to the change in speed limit prior to entering the construction zone by temporary traffic variable signs.

When traveling on NE Jackson School Road, community members are encouraged to:

  • Follow instructions from flaggers
  • Be extra cautious in active work areas
  • Obey all speed limit and construction signs
  • Increase following distance between other cars
  • Use alternate routes when possible – including NW Glencoe Road, NE 25th Avenue, or NE Brookwood Parkway

To improve active transportation options and neighborhood livability, construction will begin on the NE Jackson School Road Improvement Project in February/March 2020. Safety improvements will include complete sidewalks, cycle track, a continuous center turn lane, and signage and sight distance improvements, as well as underground utilities, storm drainage upgrades, and the addition of lighting and landscaped planter strips with street trees.
