Playgrounds, Sports Courts, and Public Recreation Equipment Are Closed in the City of Hillsboro
The City of Hillsboro has closed all playgrounds, sports courts, and public recreation equipment as of Monday, March 23, at noon. This decision follows direction from the Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Governor Kate Brown to maintain social distancing of at least six feet during the COVID-19 public health and economic crisis.
Signage announcing COVID-19 closures in Hillsboro will be posted today and tomorrow at:
- Basketball courts
- Tennis courts
- Pickleball courts
- Skate parks
- Dog parks
- Picnic shelters
- Disc golf at Orchard Park
- All sports fields (closed for group activities, open for walking and jogging)
All Hillsboro parks and trails will remain open for exercise and walking, but community members should take the need for social distancing seriously and maintain at least six feet separation from others.
“These are stressful times and we need to continue to focus on our health and wellness, but we must be responsible and wise about how we go spend our time,” said Mayor Steve Callaway. “Let’s be clear: it’s not just about protecting our own health, it’s about protecting the health of the most vulnerable among us who may be one or two social connections away from us.”
Pick-up games, picnics, and other large gatherings will not be permitted. Adults are encouraged to help children who need extra support to practice social distancing. For more information about COVID-19 and the impacts in Hillsboro, visit our COVID-19 webpage.
