Safe Routes to School 2020 Art Competition Winners Announced

In May, Hillsboro’s Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS) hosted its first My Best Walk/My Best Ride Art Competition for Hillsboro students. The competition served as an opportunity for the program to continue promoting safe walking and rolling skills as students followed social distancing measures. Entries were judged based on:

  • Best expression of theme
  • Poster design
  • Creativity
  • Artistic skill
  • Showing proper safety skills
  • Age group (Grades K-3, 4-6, and 7-8)

The City of Hillsboro is pleased to announce the following winners:

Walk winners:

  • Quinn (K-3)

  • Harrison (4-6)

  • Grace (7-8)

Ride winners:

  • Nazar (K-3)

  • Dariia (4-6)

Each winner received an art kit and fun safety items to improve their visibility on their next walk or ride. Participants also received a thank you letter and a small gift to show the City’s appreciation for their efforts during this extraordinary time.

Thank you to all those who participated in the contest! We are delighted to see where students safely walk and roll through our beautiful city.

More about Hillsboro’s SRTS Program
The SRTS Program works with the Hillsboro School District to create safe, convenient, and fun ways for youth to walk and roll (bike, scooter, skateboard, or ride the bus) to and from school in our community.

The benefits of walking and rolling to school include:

  • Increased physical activity which has been linked to improved health and increased learning, memory, and ability to stay on task
  • Improved air quality around schools
  • Reduced vehicle congestion
