In an effort to address the needs of community members experiencing homelessness during the fall weather season, a temporary shelter opened on October 8 to care for people who have previously been at the Wood Street outdoor location. The temporary shelter is located in the Salvation Army building at 1440 SE 21st Avenue in Hillsboro, near the intersection of SE Tualatin Valley Highway and SE Cypress Street.

It will remain open through November 15, when the transition to other winter shelter locations will take place.

Project Homeless Connect (PHC) is working in partnership with the Salvation Army of Hillsboro to provide this staffed, 24-hour, seven-day a week shelter. The City of Hillsboro continues to partner with PHC to provide financial support to help deliver services to the 30 Wood Street participants that will be transitioned indoors.

This shelter is only open to PHC clients. PHC staff will provide services such as:

• Housing placement & other supportive services
• Employment searches
• Referrals into Washington County’s winter shelter network for ongoing winter shelter beginning November 15
