As City Councilors, our job is to listen to and address your questions and comments. In meetings, coffee chats, and at the grocery store – homelessness is often the focus.

“We passed a regional levy – why is there still homelessness in Hillsboro?”

“How come people are camping by my neighborhood?”

“Why aren’t you doing more?”

We hear you. As a City, we are working alongside our community partners and regional partners to pursue solutions.

• Housing & Homelessness remains a top City Council priority, with a specific focus on long- term support, emergency sheltering, and regional collaboration.
  
  
• Hillsboro has invested significant resources to acquire property and prepare a permanent Year-Round Shelter on SW 17th Avenue near Dairy Creek Park to address our community’s existing needs.
  
  
• In the meantime, we are providing temporary Safe Rest Pods at this same location.
  
  
• Our Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team includes a full-time Homeless Liaison Officer who responds to issues and connects unhoused community members with life-changing resources, including mental health support.
  
  
• And we launched the Outdoor Cleanup Through Supportive Employment Project to increase debris management support in hotspot locations around the city. The program also provides employment opportunities to those with lived experience of homelessness.

In Hillsboro, we are all committed to providing compassionate care for unhoused community members, while addressing the impacts of homelessness on businesses and our community.

Homelessness is not unique to Hillsboro, which is why it takes collaboration and partnership across the Portland metro area to achieve our shared goals.
