Name of the Peaceful Forest Giant Announced
Hillsboro, meet Oro!
The community has voted on the official name of the peaceful forest giant coming to the inclusive park and playground under construction at 53rd Avenue will be Oro.
Originally suggested by four-year-old Forrest Osaki, Oro was among more than 400 names collected from and voted on by community members.
Oro, as in HillsbORO, also means gold in Spanish.
The forest giant will be a key feature of the new inclusive park and playground slated for completion in fall 2023. The community identified the “Woods Gone Wild” theme for the site, which features a significant grove of mature trees.
In addition to the forest giant, the 11-acre park adjacent to Hidden Creek Community Center will feature areas for picnics, fitness, and games. There will be a plaza, hammock grove, forest forts, and an open-air pavilion.
Not only will the park include amenities specifically designed for people of all abilities like an embankment slide and accessible swings, but the entire park is designed to be inclusive.
Wider sidewalks and paths throughout the park will accommodate mobility devices. Accessible surfaces will be used in the playground and fitness areas. Plus, there will be oversized restrooms and additional accessible parking spaces on site.
