Safe Rest Pods to Provide Shelter through October
The Safe Rest Pods on SW 17th Avenue provide life-saving shelter near Winco & Dairy Creek Park as the City & partners work toward building a future year-round shelter at the site.
Since reopening in December 2023, the temporary shelter has:
- Sheltered & supported 30 to 40 individuals & couples each night, with pets allowed.
- Served 99 individual guests from 95 households.
- Supported 18 guests with placement in longer-term housing.
- Connected 99 guests to housing assessments, a key first step on the path from homelessness to long-term housing support.
The Safe Rest Pods will close at the end of October as we prepare the site for year-round shelter construction.
The portable pod shelters are owned by Washington County and will be moved to a new location to be determined by Washington County. Open Door HousingWorks will safely transition guests to an alternate shelter or housing.
