Accessibility Options Increase at City Council Meetings
Hillsboro City Council meetings can now be:
- translated into 60 languages
- live-streamed online
- and heard more easily in person
Community members can also talk to the City Council in a language other than English during public comment — and the Council will be able to receive the information in English or their language of choice.
AI-Powered Live Translation
The City of Hillsboro’s new AI-powered translation tool, Wordly, allows smartphone users to scan a QR code and select their language of choice for real-time, two-way translation that can be heard as audio or read in real-time as text. The City of Hillsboro launched the live captioning tool during the February 4, 2025 City Council meeting.
Because of the tool, community members who testify during public comment can speak in their language of choice and the Councilors can use Wordly to understand the testimony in English.
Anyone can find and use the QR code by visiting TVCTV’s livestream or the City Council meeting webpage. Just scan the QR code, whether you are attending the meeting in person or online, and the real-time translation will begin.
“These resources reflect the City’s prioritization and investment in inclusion and accessibility,” said City Manager Robby Hammond. “I’m excited to see our community members use it and benefit from them.”
Assistive Listening Devices
In addition to Wordly’s real-time text display option, the City of Hillsboro provides Assistive Listening Devices (ALD), which are available upon request at each City Council meeting.
Online Livestream
Each Hillsboro City Council meeting is broadcast and recorded by TVCTV. Community members can access the link to each livestream by visiting the City Council webpage.
