HiLight Connects Community with Digital Literacy
Digital literacy programs can help you connect to the internet with confidence.
That’s one reason why HiLight has teamed up with the Hillsboro Public Library (HPL) to help support digital literacy workshops in Hillsboro.
In late 2024, HPL received a grant from the PLA Digital Literacy Workshop Incentive to fund a series of digital literacy workshops, which launched in March 2025.
The workshops, held in both English and Spanish, help Hillsboro community members better understand:
- How to use Android and Apple phones
- How to connect to and manage email
- How to protect themselves online
Digital Equity = Connectivity
HiLight is excited to work with City of Hillsboro departments to grow digital equity, which is often seen as a three-legged stool requiring:
- Affordable and reliable broadband connectivity
- A good device to connect to the internet and take full advantage of online opportunities
- The digital literacy needed to safely navigate online
The HiLight Bridge program offers residents world-class broadband connectivity with managed Wi-Fi for just $10 per month for qualified households.
Bridge also offers free laptops to qualified households that don’t otherwise have devices with which to get connected.
The Hillsboro Public Library’s digital literacy programs, including these grant-funded workshops, help Hillsboro residents understand how to safely navigate online.
