4 Ways to Beat the Rising Cost of Broadband Internet
A recent CNET survey, found 63% of home internet customers in America faced price increases last year — paying $195 more than the year before, on average.
Author Ben Lovejoy called this trend out in his article, “Most Americans are paying more for broadband – here are four solutions,” and reported two main reasons for the rising prices:
- Expiring promotional rates
- Complex hidden fees
To help you fight back against the rising cost of broadband internet, Lovejoy offers four solutions:
- Negotiate
Most broadband service providers work to retain customers. Calling when your promotion ends and negotiating a new deal often keeps your rates lower. - Downgrade
Many times the connection speed you have is greater than remote services can respond to. Check to see if your provider offers lower speed tiers at lower rates. - Switch Your Internet Service Provider
If you can’t get a better deal from your provider, consider switching providers. - Buy Your Own Router
Some providers charge you for a router. You may be able to save money by buying your own.
