Arts & Culture Grants Announced

grant-header-no-text-and-linesThe City of Hillsboro’s commitment to supporting local arts and culture includes the annual Community Arts & Culture Grant program which this year doubled in size thanks to economic stimulus funds. 

A total of $198,367 was requested across two grant categories, and awards totaling $100,417.25 were recently approved for funding by the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council (HACC). Projects will take place over the coming year, with some starting as early as June 2025.

Applications for core support and project grants were reviewed and ranked by a panel made up of HACC members. There were 37 grants applications received, and 21 grants were funded. The grant program annual budget is $50,000, with another $50,000 per year being allocated from American Rescue Plan Act funds available for up to three years.

12 Project/Small Project Grant Applicants    

Bag&Baggage Productions: $6,000
To support the Hillsboro Youth Performance Ensemble - an original world premiere theatrical adaptation of a classic fable, offered free to the community. The HYPE showcase is the culmination of a unique, six-month creative and professional development program for Hillsboro teens.

Elysium Art Empowerment Collective: $3,000     
Presenting the 4th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Art Exhibit, hosted at Hillsboro Public Libraries from September 1 to October 31, 2025. This free event will feature Hispanic artists, cultural performances, and an international art exchange, fostering awareness, economic growth, and artistic collaboration within the community.

FLIP Museum: $5,350
The FLIP Museum will organize a community-wide Lunar New Year celebration for the City of Hillsboro in February 2026.

Hillsboro Farmers Markets: $6,000
Hillsboro Farmers Markets will present new full day cultural programing on the first Saturday of each month of the market season, while still continuing the regular musical and arts programs in all markets.

Hillsboro Tuesday Night Marketplace: $6,000
The Tuesday Night Marketplace will bring a series of cultural performances to the weekly market in downtown Hillsboro.

Oregon Chorale: $6,000
Support for their Emerging Voices Internship Program for choral musicians in local high schools. 

Our Bold Voices: $1,000
A LGBTQ+ storytelling event featuring local queer authors during Pride Month.

Tualatin Valley Creates: $6,000
TVC’s Emerging Creatives Initiative invests in advancing Hillsboro’s rising talent by spotlighting emerging musicians, creative performers, and small creative businesses through pop-ups at TVC’s events and programs.

Washington County Arts Alliance: $4,000 
Support for the Washington County Artists Open Studio Tour, the 3rd weekend in October.

Westside Community & Youth Orchestra: $5,000
This capacity-building project focuses on audience development and growing youth participation in the orchestra.

Willamette Writers: $875
Supports Willamette Writers’ events at the Brookwood Library.

Young Artist’s Club: $2,542.25
Art supplies for Mooberry Elementary school students in afterschool program, in the classroom, and at home.

9 Core Operation Requests    

Bag&Baggage Productions: $7,500
Founded in 2004, Bag&Baggage Productions is a professional theatre company focusing on social impact by employing artistic expression to elicit cultural connections & to unify the community through meaningful engagement and transformative learning opportunities. 

Friends of HART Theater: $7,500
HART is in the business of providing quality theatre and entertainment to the citizens of Hillsboro and the surrounding areas. HART is also dedicated to providing educational opportunities, chances for community involvement through volunteer activity, and support for cultural diversity.

Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra: $3,450
Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra, founded in 2001, provides an affordable and family-friendly cultural experience in western Washington County with three concerts per year. Additionally, 70+/- amateur musicians are given the opportunity to perform. 

Oregon Chorale: $7,500
The Oregon Chorale is an adult choir, based in Hillsboro and founded in 1985, that promotes beautiful, evocative choral singing at the highest level while keeping concerts affordable, accessible and fun. The Chorale supports local youth through its Emerging Voices program, music scholarships, and collaboration with local youth choirs.

RASIKA: $5,000

Founded in 1999 to present the classical performing arts of India to Oregon audiences. Rasika promotes the music of East India with concerts and presentation of educational outreach events to enhance the appreciation and understanding of the culture and traditions of this ancient land.

STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy: $7,500
STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy offers innovative programs for youth where they may develop their own unique creative voice in a supportive environment. STAGES nurtures artistic, intellectual and character development through an educational theatre arts program that develops confidence, respect, compassion, cooperation, creativity, and critical thinking. 

Tualatin Valley Artists / Influence Music Hall: $2,700
Tualatin Valley Artists is an organization of creative people dedicated to improving the community’s quality of life by enhancing its art and culture. With a strong focus on building and presenting a regional sense of art & culture, they provide musical performance – all in an atmosphere of encouragement and opportunity.

Tualatin Valley Creates: $5,000
Tualatin Valley Creates is an arts service organization serving Washington County.  Its mission is to drive the development of inclusive, resilient, creative communities using arts, culture, heritage, and humanities.

Westside Community Youth Orchestra: $2,500

The Westside community Youth orchestra strives to provide high quality performances as an orchestra for our community, while cultivating artistic growth and excellence of both youth and adult members through enriching orchestral experiences and mentoring among WCYO musicians.

The City of Hillsboro also recently announced Performance Grants which will bring local music, dance, and theatre to the stage at the Walters Cultural Arts Center.
