Meet Hillsboro's School Resource Officers

Post Date:08/06/2025

Why are School Resource Officers (SROs) on campuses in the Hillsboro School District?

Dedicated officers from the City of Hillsboro Police Department help keep our schools safe and supportive for students, parents, teachers, and staff.

More than just security — this is about community, connection, and care.

Scroll down to learn about each school's SRO

Detective Dylan Hettrich

Century HS, Imlay ES, Ladd Acres ES, Rosedale ES

Detective Dylan Hettrich

“The most meaningful part of this job is we get to do a lot of non-traditional police work. We get to be mentors, we get to be teachers, we get to be coaches, we get to work with our administrators, we get to work with our families.

A big part of my role is educating our students and that can be on a variety of topics and a variety of level of kids from kindergarteners all the way up to our seniors in high school.”

Fun Fact about Dylan: He loves watching cooking shows and honing his culinary skills.

Detective Edgar Garcia-Garfias

South Meadows MS, Brookwood ES, W.L. Henry ES, Witch Hazel ES

Detective Edgar Garcia-Garfias

“If (students) ever are in some sort of crisis or some sort of issue, they can reach out to me when it might not be as negative, when talking to a stranger because they already have that relationship with me.”

Fun Fact about Edgar: He is a huge fan of soccer, and a huge supporter of the Portland Timbers.

Detective Tracy Hinkelman

Glencoe HS, Hillsboro Online Academy: Oak Street (9th – 12th grades), McKinney ES

“I'd like parents to know that our number one job in the schools is to keep kids safe and to make sure their kids have equal opportunity to spend that time in the classroom to get the education that they all need.”

Fun Fact about Tracy: She once worked as a wildland firefighter!

Detective Robbie Carrigan

Evergreen MS, Jackson ES, Mooberry ES, Patterson ES

“I wanted to become an SRO because I was a high school rugby coach and being able to be there for the kids and mentoring the kids is just a feeling you can't replace.”

Fun Fact about Robbie: In addition to playing and coaching Rugby, he really enjoys board games and card games.

Detective Megan Linn

Hillsboro HS, Minter Bridge ES, Tamarack ES

“Being able to connect with the kids and hopefully change the trajectory of their life and what they're doing. It's fun to see them back in the community after you've been involved in their life and see them successful in doing it.”

Fun Fact about Megan: She has a Great Dane named Gordo and he weighs more than she does!

Detective Dow Tobin

Liberty HS, Orenco ES, Quatama ES

“Serving as a School Resource Officer allows me the opportunity to be proactive in guiding students toward positive decisions, rather than reacting to the consequences of poor choices they might have made in the future.”

Fun Fact about Dow: He is a diehard football fan. His first job was driving tugboats in the Caribbean.

Detective Chris Taaca

Poynter MS, RA Brown MS, Eastwood ES, Lincoln Street ES

“I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know the students and staff."

Fun Fact about Chris: In 2024, he and his family walked 378 miles on The Camino de Santiago in 27 days.

Sergeant Jodi Sackville, School Resource Officer (SRO) Unit Supervisor

Sgt. Sackville oversees the daily operations and performance of school resource officers, ensuring they maintain safety while building positive relationships with students and staff.

She also coordinates training, evaluates program effectiveness, and serves as a liaison between law enforcement and school administration.

These Hillsboro School District schools are served by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office:

Butternut Creek ES, Farmington View ES, Groner ES, Indian Hills ES, Lenox ES, Reedville ES, West Union ES
