New Water System Moves Closer to Completion

Post Date:09/08/2025

Hillsboro, in collaboration with neighboring communities, is nearing completion of a major infrastructure project to deliver a new water supply system built for resiliency.

WWSS Water Treatment Plant Progress May 2025

The Willamette Water Supply System (WWSS) is a long-term, regional partnership between the City of Hillsboro, Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD), and the City of Beaverton to develop a new water source. The WWSS will be in addition to Hillsboro's current water source, the Tualatin River (supplemented in the summer with water from Hagg Lake and Barney Reservoir), to ensure Hillsboro has a redundant and reliable water supply.

Construction began in 2022 for the new Water Treatment Plant in Sherwood. The state-of-the-art facility will use the latest technology to meet or exceed strict drinking water standards and produce water similar in taste and quality to Hillsboro's current supply.

As the final pipelines are installed and the treatment plant nears completion, Hillsboro is focusing on the next critical phase: water supply integration. Efforts to prepare the current system for an additional supply will maintain water quality standards as the new system comes online.

While most customers won't notice a change in their water service, this project prepared the community for the future by increasing the reliability, redundancy, and resiliency of Hillsboro's water systems.
