Free Trees Available for Downtown Residents & Businesses
Hillsboro community members and businesses in the Downtown area can get a FREE tree that will be planted by Friends of Trees volunteers!
The Friends of Trees team will take care of everything, including permits, mulching, utility locates, digging, and care guidance during two volunteer planting events on December 6 and January 31.
How to get your free tree
- Step 1: Pick out your free tree on the Friends of Trees website
- Choose by November 10 for the December 6 planting event
- Choose by January 5 for the January 31 planting event
That’s it! Once you pick your tree, there’s nothing else you have to do. All community members are welcome to join the tree planting events, but volunteering is not a requirement to receive your tree.
Tree Planting Volunteer Events
Friends of Trees will host two events to get the new trees planted throughout Downtown. Both events begin at M&M Marketplace.
- Saturday, December 6:
- 9 am to 1 pm
- 9 am to 1 pm
- Saturday, January 31:
- 9 am to 1 pm
Sign up to volunteer for either event
In addition to planting trees in front yards and businesses for those who sign up to receive a tree, volunteers will plant new trees in Downtown parks like McKinney and Shute Park, and at Hillsboro schools including Witch Hazel, Oak Street Campus, and Lincoln Street Campus.
This program is made possible thanks to funding from the Arbor Day Foundation.
