Response to ICE Impacts: Hillsboro City Council to Discuss

Información en español

Hillsboro community members are invited to listen to the Hillsboro City Council’s discussion of ICE impacts in Hillsboro on Tuesday, November 4, starting at 6 pm.

The Council work session on ICE impacts will be held in person at the Hillsboro Civic Center, Room 113, at 150 East Main Street in Downtown Hillsboro.

The meeting can also be accessed virtually on Zoom.

  • Get community resources & info about Hillsboro’s Sanctuary City status

  • Mayor Pace & Chief Coleman’s message to the community

Speaking to the City Council

Public comment will begin at 7 pm during the regular City Council meeting. Community members are invited to listen to the Council discussion during the 6 pm work session.

  • Speakers will have up to three minutes to share their thoughts with the City Council.

  • The City Council will not respond to questions and comments during the meeting, but they are listening.

  • Written comments may also be emailed to Council@Hillsboro-Oregon.gov.

As a reminder, the Council does not respond to specific comments during the meeting, however, the City Manager may direct staff to follow up with speakers regarding comments or questions.

People attending the meeting can register to speak by filling out a yellow card on the table in the back of the room and giving it to the City Recorder.

  • As a courtesy, please address comments to the Council and not to the audience.

  • Please show respect for all speakers and avoid sharing personal comments from the audience seating area.

Speaking Virtually

Community members who want to speak to the City Council virtually on Zoom must register to speak with the City Recorder’s Office by 3 pm on the day of the meeting.

  • To register to speak virtually, email Council@Hillsboro-Oregon.gov or call 503-681-6269.

During Public Comment, when your name is called, your microphone will be unmuted for three minutes. Prior to that, your microphone will be muted.

  • Members of the public using Zoom will not be able to share their screen or turn their video camera on during the meeting.

  • Any presentation materials should be submitted as written testimony.

  • For help with Zoom, read the Instructions for Joining and Participating in a Webinar or see Zoom's Frequently Asked Questions.

Attending the Council Meeting in Person

  • To ensure all audience members can hear the Council discussion, bullhorns and other sound amplification devices that disrupt the meeting will not be allowed.

  • To ensure all audience members can see the Council discussion, signage with sticks or poles attached will not be allowed.

  • Anyone who disrupts the meeting — including cheers, boos, chants, and physical disturbances — will be asked to stop their activity or, in the event of continued disruptions, will be asked to leave the meeting.

Translation Services

The City of Hillsboro offers translation services to listen to the City Council meeting, and to speak to the City Council.

If you are attending in person, please see staff on site for instructions on how to access translation services.

You can use your phone or computer to translate the meeting automatically with Wordly, which will provide captions or audio in your preferred language. Dozens of languages are available.

Community members can also talk to the City Council in a language other than English during public comment — and the Council will be able to receive the information in English or their language of choice.

  • If you are attending in person and want to listen to the audio translation instead of reading the translation, you will need headphones.

  • See the City Recorder to borrow a set of headphones if you do not have your own.

  • Unmute the Wordly webpage on your phone once your headphones are connected.

A livestream of the broadcast is available on TVCTV Channel 30 online or on television.
