12 Big Projects Ahead for 2026 in Hillsboro

2025 proved as challenging as it was busy. Now that we’re turning the calendar to a new year, City staff are preparing for 2026 to be every bit as busy, if not more.

With that in mind, here are 12 areas the City will be working on in the year ahead:

More Support for Community Impacted by ICE

As the City Council’s plan continues to move forward, City staff will be focused on implementing the plan and ensuring support to impacted community members.

Willamette Water Supply Program Launches

Hillsboro’s additional water supply source will include a state-of-the-art water treatment plant and over 30 miles of transmission pipes, built to modern seismic standards to withstand the impacts of a large earthquake or other natural disaster.

Fire Station 9 Opens

Hillsboro’s sixth strategically located fire station is set to open in the South Hillsboro neighborhood — the first City facility in the area.

New Hillsboro Hops Stadium

Hops fans will get to take in their first games in the new ballpark starting in April when the 2026 baseball season kicks off.

Block 67 Construction Starts

The mixed-use development in Downtown Hillsboro is set to move forward with construction of workforce housing, age-restricted housing, and commercial spaces, including a grocer/food co-op.

New HPD Headquarters Construction

A groundbreaking and construction are ahead for the future headquarters of the Hillsboro Police Department near the Hillsboro Airport and NE Evergreen Road.

HiLight’s Expansion Continues

With about 11,000 homes and businesses now in the service area for HiLight high-speed internet, the HiLight team will continue adding service addresses in the Jackson School and Glencoe neighborhoods on Hillsboro’s northwest side.

OpenHillsboro Goes Live

Hillsboro’s new user-friendly, online platform for land use development and permitting services will go live in 2026, making it easier to build, grow, and invest in the community.

Lighted Futsal Courts at Dairy Creek Park 

Futsal enthusiasts will play past the darkness when new lighted courts debut in 2026.

Hillsboro Parks Projects

Community Choice grant-funded projects are coming to three Hillsboro parks in 2026: Evergreen Park, Orenco Woods Nature Park, and Shute Park.

Public Art Additions

More public art will be installed, including Cloud Nest at Shute Park, the Shute Park Library installation, and more murals around the city.

150th Anniversary Event

The City of Hillsboro will mark its 150th Anniversary as a local government in 2026, including a culmination event in October 2026.
