Multi-Unit Residential Fire Displaces 13 Residents
Hillsboro Fire & Rescue responded to a residential fire in a multi-unit apartment complex in the 100 block of NW Bailey Avenue at approximately 4:24 a.m. on Friday, January 23.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from one apartment unit. Crews immediately entered the building to extinguish the fire and search adjacent units to ensure all residents had safely evacuated.
All residents were confirmed to be out of the building. No injuries were reported, though one person was evaluated by paramedics at the scene. Eight adults and five children were displaced as a result of the fire. Hillsboro Public Safety Chaplains and the American Red Cross responded to provide assistance and support to affected residents.
Hillsboro Fire & Rescue fire investigators are investigating the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation.
Smoke Alarm Safety Reminder
Hillsboro Fire & Rescue reminds the community that working smoke alarms save lives. Residents are encouraged to take the following steps to protect themselves and their families:

Install smoke alarms on every floor of your home and inside every sleeping area.

Test smoke alarms regularly to ensure they are working properly.

Practice a home escape plan so everyone knows how to get out safely.

Once outside at your designated meeting place, call 911 from a safe location away from the fire.
