Firefighters Prevent Fire Spread at Hillsboro Home

Post Date:01/24/2026 10:28 pm

Hillsboro Fire & Rescue responded to a residential fire Saturday, January 24, at approximately 7:39 pm in the 700 block of Southwest Bailey Avenue. Firefighters from Main Fire Station arrived within four minutes and found smoke coming from the roofline. The resident had safely evacuated before crews arrived.

Firefighters quickly accessed the attic and extinguished a small fire near a wood stove pipe, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the home. No injuries were reported, and the resident was able to reenter the home after the fire was extinguished. Firefighters also installed two smoke alarms after finding none working in the home.

This was the second residential fire in Hillsboro within 12 hours related to fireplaces or wood stoves. Hillsboro Fire & Rescue reminds residents to have chimneys inspected and cleaned annually, keep flammable items at least 3 feet away from heat sources, and install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in sleeping areas.
