Free Live Tutoring & Study Tools

With a library card, students (and lifelong learners) can access:

• Live tutoring sessions with Brainfuse HelpNow (1 to 10 pm daily, except holidays) 
• Practice tests for exams like the SAT and ACT 
• Writing and studying support tools with Gale 

Learners at every level can succeed — without the cost of private tutoring. 

Library Mail Service

If you (or someone you know) live in Washington County and are unable to pick up library materials due to a physical/visual disability or mobility challenge lasting at least six months, WCCLS can mail materials to your home.

Let the library come to you with:

Multilingual Storytimes & Cultural Programming

Celebrate Hillsboro’s diverse culture with Storytimes in nine languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, and Russian. These programs are especially valuable for:

• Multilingual families 
• Language learners 
• Anyone interested in cultural exchange  

Cultural programs are offered throughout the year, including in support of nationally recognized heritage months.   

Historical Archives… You Can Actually Access

A treasure trove of local history can be discovered through preserved newspapers like The Hillsboro Argus and The Hillsboro Independent.
The Library’s archives date back to the 1890s. Access digitized historic Oregon newspapers as well for: 

• Genealogy research 
• Local history projects 
• Curious residents wanting to explore Hillsboro’s past 

Local Art Gallery Spaces

Brookwood Library has the most linear feet of hanging art space in Washington County and hosts artist receptions every few months.

Shute Park Library and Brookwood Library both feature art gallery space.

Browse rotating exhibits featuring local artists — an experience more commonly associated with art galleries than libraries. 

Hillsboro Public Library: Beyond the Buildings

To expand access and bring reading into everyday public spaces and neighborhoods across Hillsboro, the Library’s outreach efforts include:

• The NovelBranch at Hidden Creek Community Center: Our vending-machine-style kiosk offers books whenever the Community Center is open.  
• Tiny Branches are in many local parks, serving as mini free libraries maintained with volunteer help.
• StoryWalks® are located at four parks in Hillsboro, allowing readers to enjoy a story as you stroll through a park. 
• Library on the Loose: Hillsboro’s version of a bookmobile brings Library programs and books to parks, schools, and events year-round.
