The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently announced that more than 10,000 addresses in Hillsboro will have a new Zone Improvement Plan (ZIP) Code starting July 1, 2026. Read the press release from USPS.

USPS announced the new ZIP Code — 97129 — will roughly span east to west from Cornelius Pass Road to Brookwood Parkway and north to south from Main Street to Rosa Road and Murphy Street. See a draft map of the new ZIP Code.  

Impacted community members were notified of the change from USPS by mail in early May and assured that delivery of mail with the old ZIP Code will continue for a period of one year.  

USPS has said the new ZIP Code is necessary due to:

• continued growth in the area
• the need to balance delivery operations
• delivering the most efficient mail service possible  

When originally planning for community growth in South Hillsboro, the City of Hillsboro, Washington County, and Senator Jeff Merkley advocated for a new ZIP Code as early as 2014 to cover those areas before development was set to take place.

USPS denied that request in 2016. 

Advocacy continued and City staff submitted a second request for a new ZIP Code in 2024 for areas in development in South Hillsboro and Witch Hazel Village South.

In February 2026, USPS confirmed a new ZIP Code was approved for Hillsboro, but limited details were provided other than an approximate boundary of the impacted addresses. In May 2026, USPS revealed the new boundary and began notifying impacted addresses. 

While the City's advocacy was for the issuance of a new ZIP Code for the growth areas (South Hillsboro and Witch Hazel Village South), USPS has stated that the new ZIP Code boundaries were expanded to meet operational needs and to balance delivery operations for USPS. 

Some properties included in the ZIP Code change have also been impacted by City-initiated address changes, but these are separate efforts. The City had been actively working to limit the impact of a new ZIP Code change. Learn more about the City's addressing projects.

What do I need to do if my address has changed? 

After the change is effective:

• Notify the Washington County Assessment & Taxation office at 503-846-8741 to update your mailing address, if you own property. 
• Update your address with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), banks, utilities that are not billed through the City of Hillsboro, and anyone who sends you mail, just like when you move. You do not need to contact the City of Hillsboro.
• Begin using your new address immediately after the effective date. Use up any existing address labels, letterhead, or business cards during the transition period and order supplies with your new address.

Do I need to get a new driver's license, permit, or identification card from the DMV?

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) states it is no longer issuing change of address stickers as of 2020. The Oregon DMV website indicates you do not need to get a replacement driver's license, permit, or identification card when your address changes, but you do need to update your address. A new card is optional.
