October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Join us as we stand up against violence!

DVRT Purple Ribbon graphicIt's Domestic Violence Awareness Month and we are inviting you to join us as we stand up against violence. Acknowledging how domestic violence impacts our lives and the community is the first step for change. Throughout the month of October we invite you to stop by any of our events to show your support in raising awareness against domestic violence in our community.

HPD Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events & Activities:

October 9, 5 pm to 5:30 pm, Hillsboro Police Department – 250 SE 10th Ave.

We are recruiting for Domestic Violence Response Team Volunteer Advocates. Join us for a Meet & Greet to learn more information on how you can help us support DV victims and their families. For more details visit: https://www.hillsboro-oregon.gov/departments/police/programs/domestic-violence-response-team. Recruitment closes October 20.

October 16-31, Hillsboro Police Department - 250 SE 10th Avenue
Hands are Not for Hurting Scavenger Hunt. Did you color a hand at one of the Hillsboro Farmer’s Markets? Now is the time to find all those incredible, artistic hands! During the month of October, there are clues to help you journey across the City of Hillsboro to find the hands. Find all nine locations, fill out the Bingo card, and bring it back to the Hillsboro Police Department for a prize. Pick up your clues at the Police Department beginning October 13.

October 17, 9 am to 4 pm, Hillsboro Civic Center - 150 E Main Street
The Clothesline Project Display. The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by women survivors of violence, by someone who loves a woman who has been killed or by someone who simply cares.

Pick out your favorite shade of purple, it's National Wear Purple Day in support of Domestic Violence Awareness!

October 24, 3 pm to 7 pm, Walters Cultural Arts Center - 527 E Main Street
The Clothesline Project Display. The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by women survivors of violence, by someone who loves a woman who has been killed or by someone who simply cares.

October 25, 5 pm to 8 pm, Washington County Courthouse (lawn) - 145 NW 2nd Avenue
Remembrance & Vigil for Domestic Violence Survivors. A memorial and moment of silence will be observed to reflect on the devastating consequences domestic violence has had on our community, family and friends. Stop by to show your support. Candle lighting at 7:30pm.

All Month, Hillsboro Police Department - 250 SE 10th Ave.
Cell phone drive! Drop off old cell phones and accessories. They will be swiped clean and given as 911 cell phones to crime victims. A collection bin will be available the entire month of October in the Hillsboro Police Department lobby.
