Hillsboro Fire Lieutenant Chad Carey Named Firefighter of the Year
Hillsboro American Legion Post Six has honored Hillsboro Fire Department Lieutenant Chad Carey as its 2017 Firefighter of the Year for his dedication to the community and his commitment to public safety.
Lieutenant Carey, 43, is an 18-year Fire Department veteran. He was honored at a dinner hosted by American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary members.
"Lieutenant Carey exemplifies the type of firefighter we want in leadership roles – competent, compassionate, and resourceful," said Hillsboro Fire Chief Scott Magers. "When, as an incident commander, I see Chad and his engine company drive up to an emergency scene, I know we'll get this under control quickly," Magers added while presenting the award.
American Legion Post Commander Bob Gnos presented Carey with a plaque. The honor is bestowed on one person each year. Hillsboro firefighters nominate a small ballot of candidates for the award and all members of the local firefighters union vote to select the winner.
