City Manager's Report: Hillsboro's Emergency Responders Deliver Fire Protection and Much More
by Michael Brown, Hillsboro City Manager
There’s great value in knowing the Hillsboro Fire Department will respond rapidly when you need help, but you may not realize that our emergency responders do more than douse flames. Long before you call 9-1-1, they’re working every day to save lives.
Each time you enter a home, school, or store, you can feel confident knowing our fire inspectors thoroughly examine structures for the safety of all who enter.
Throughout the year, our firefighters educate residents about the need for working smoke alarms with charged batteries. Fire prevention educators visit our neighborhoods and encourage residents to develop a fire escape plan.
Our Youth Fire Prevention and Intervention Program offers free counseling for children who are at risk for setting fires. Stopping behavior that could threaten lives in each neighborhood is a community problem that requires employee outreach.
Partnering with the Hillsboro School District, Hillsboro Fire Department employees provide all 8th-grade students with the knowledge and confidence to save lives by performing hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or using a defibrillator device.
And did you know...two-thirds of all Hillsboro Fire Department emergency response calls are actually for medical emergencies, not fires. Hillsboro Fire Department employees most often arrive ahead of an ambulance when both respond at medical emergency scenes.
Our employees deliver outstanding protection and peace of mind for our community. And rest assured, when there is a fire, they are experts at putting out the flames and finding out the cause.
