Volunteers Bring Stickwork Sculpture to Life at Orenco Woods Nature Park

Post Date:05/03/2017

Stickwork sculpture by Patrick DoughteryArtist Patrick Dougherty’s larger-than-life stick sculpture, Head Over Heels, took shape in April at Orenco Woods Nature Park thanks to the work of more than 100 volunteers – including many Hillsboro students. The commissioned sculpture, built with only local plant branches, showcases sustainability and creates a unique destination in the park.

Head Over Heels will have a lifespan of between two and four years at the nature park. Dougherty’s other work can be seen at Oregon State University and the Portland Children’s Museum, or online at www.Stickwork.net.

See the sculpture come to life in this timelapse video produced by Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department's Public Art Program.
