Orenco Station Plaza to be Renamed for Former Mayor Jerry Willey
Orenco Station Plaza, the site of community events such as OrenKoFest and Winter Village, will be renamed in June in honor of former Mayor Jerry Willey. The future Jerry Willey Plaza at Orenco Station will be officially dedicated during the Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department’s Second Sunday event on Sunday, June 11, at 1 pm.

Orenco Station Plaza opened in August 2015 adjacent to the mixed-used development at the Platform District and the train tracks for TriMet’s MAX Blue Line. The Plaza hosts OrenKoFest, Hillsboro’s harvest festival in early October; Winter Village, the popular temporary outdoor ice rink in December; and Second Sundays between June and September.
“Orenco Station Plaza is a vibrant community gathering place that brings people from across our great City together,” said Mayor Steve Callaway, who succeeded Willey in January 2017. “The Plaza came to fruition during Jerry’s eight years in office, and it’s fitting that we honor his legacy of public service to our community by naming this remarkable location after him.”
Situated next to the stop for TriMet’s MAX Blue Line, the Plaza opened in 2015 adjacent to the mixed-use development at the Platform District.
First elected Mayor in 2008, Jerry Willey served two full terms as Mayor from 2009 to 2017. He previously served as a City Councilor from 1992 to 1997. His other community involvement included serving on the Hillsboro School District Budget Committee, Oregon International Air Show Committee, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, and as past president of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce. He also served as President of the Hillsboro Library Foundation and on the Hillsboro Library Board.
In 1998, Willey was recognized as Hillsboro Citizen of the Year by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce. In 2015, Mayor Willey was honored with the Oregon Mayors Association Award of Merit. In 2016, he received the James C Richards Award from the League of Oregon Cities for exceptional service by an elected city government official.
