Sustainability Award Recognizes City of Hillsboro's Efforts to Protect the Environment
The City of Hillsboro Public Works Department Fleet Services Division was recently awarded the EcoBiz Certification for Automotive Services by Oregon's Pollution Prevention Outreach (P2O) Team.
The voluntary EcoBiz Maintenance Certification Program recognizes facilities that reach the highest standards in preventing and minimizing hazardous waste, air, and water pollution. EcoBiz is administered by the P2O Team, a group of pollution prevention experts from around the Portland metro region and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.
To become certified, the Hillsboro Public Works Department Fleet Facility adopted a rigorous checklist of nearly 100 different best sustainable management practices, including substituting hazardous materials with less hazardous options, eliminating at least two sources of waste by changing operating practices, providing secondary containment for fluids to reduce possibility of spills entering storm drains, and including waste reduction and pollution prevention in employee job descriptions.
The Fleet Services Division of the City of Hillsboro Public Works Department procures and maintains a fleet of more than 500 safe, cost-effective vehicles and equipment.
