Merideth Kaye Clark Brings Joni Mitchell’s BLUE to the Walters

Post Date:04/12/2018 11:30 am

Merideth Kaye Clark with her guitarWithout a doubt, Joni Mitchell’s BLUE is one of the most iconic, beloved albums of all time. In a ranking of the 150 top albums made by women, NPR recently declared it the greatest of all time. “Blue is her crossroads, where she (Mitchell) bests her devils and invents a mode of expression that every singer-songwriter must master, but none can truly imitate”  (Ann Powers, NPR Music).

Acclaimed singer and nationally touring Broadway performer, Merideth Kaye Clark, brings Blue to the Walters Cultural Arts Center on Friday, May 4 at 7:30 pm for a special performance combining the best of live music and theatre. With a resume that includes some of the country’s most prestigious regional theatres and the National Broadway tour of Wicked, Clarke brings her remarkable voice to Mitchell’s songs, recreating the album from beginning to end in the original keys. “Clark is a masterful performer and she has an amazing voice” (Broadway World website). Clark’s live version first premiered at Portland Center Stage to sold-out audiences. Don’t miss this special dedication to one remarkable performer by another!

“Clark’s voice is every bit as light and dancing as Mitchell’s, but her softer-¬edged high notes gave the songs a soul that drew me in. Clark’s openness and happiness on the stage is pure delight, the joy and empathy she has in and for Mitchell’s work coming out in every note. It is Clark’s shimmering personality that brings all of that beauty to life.”  - Meg Currell, Edge Media Network
