Post Date:07/24/2018

Laurie at McKinney ParkCity of Hillsboro residents love the Hillsboro Public Library, and it shows in the voting for the 2018 Best of Hillsboro Awards.

For the first time in its four-year history, a Best of Hillsboro Awards category ended in a tie as the Hillsboro Public Library staff and the Library of Things received equal support to win the honor of being called the “Best Hillsboro Library Feature.”

More than 300 people cast votes online and in person at Celebrate Hillsboro on Saturday, July 21. Winners in the six categories will be formally announced at the Hillsboro City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 7. Created in 2015, the Best of Hillsboro Awards survey the community to help identify what makes living in Hillsboro special. Finalists are selected based on community members’ nominees.

The Best Hillsboro Library Feature category proved exceptionally competitive. Self-check machines finished just a handful of votes behind the Library staff and Library of Things in the voting, and the top three choices each earned more than 26 percent of voters’ support to best two other finalists: Storytimes and The Collaboratory.

The Library also took home the title of Best Place to Stay Cool in Summer in one of the closest competitions, narrowly besting the 53rd Avenue Community Park sprayground, SHARC swimming pools, the Hillsboro Civic Center fountain, and the Magnolia Park spraygound.
