Nearly 1,300 Comments Help Update Hillsboro's Transportation System Plan
Drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and public transit riders were all represented among the nearly 1,300 comments collected for the update of Hillsboro’s Transportation System Plan (TSP).
The three-months-long initial public outreach campaign for the TSP update ended in July following: three open houses; booths at four community events; two pop-up events at Hillsboro libraries; two community group presentations; and 962 comments shared on the TSP online map.
The City’s initial outreach wrapped up with a Spanish-language open house. In partnership with Centro Cultural, the event brought nearly 30 Hillsboro residents together to speak with City of Hillsboro employees about streets, sidewalks, and intersections that would benefit from additional attention in the future transportation plan.
“The people who drive, ride, and walk every day in Hillsboro know where our transportation system is working well and where it could be working better,” said Brad Choi, Transportation Planner. “We knew we needed to work proactively to maximize our public outreach campaign and get a broad cross-section of voices and perspectives. Hearing from nearly 1,300 community members will help us hone in on the most effective uses of our resources.”
City staff will now review the wide variety of comments from the community to identify solutions and opportunities for the future transportation plan.
The next phase of public outreach on the TSP update will focus on listening to community feedback after potential solutions are identified, and discussing the best ways to emphasize and prioritize improvements.
