Hillsboro Mediation to Host Three on Thursdays - Free Conflict Resolution Workshops
Come explore interactive workshops where participants learn creative ways to resolve conflicts and better handle angry people.
The Hillsboro Mediation Program continually works to provide community members with the skills and tools necessary to move through conflict and improve relationships. Join us as we begin another series of three workshops on Thursdays to get all of your conflict resolution questions answered in our interactive classes. Participants will explore topics such as conflict styles and how they affect relationships; resistance to resolving conflicts, and how we can better handle angry people.
- September 20, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - Conflict Styles
Each one of us has a unique style when faced with conflict. We’ve learned those responses from our very earliest interactions with other people. We will explore the nature of conflict styles and the instinctual conditions that keep conflicts from getting resolved.
- September 27, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - Resistance to Resolving Conflicts
What causes people to resist efforts to resolve a conflict? We’ll take a look at what gets in the way of conflict resolution. What causes people to become entrenched and unable to move towards a peaceful solution. How can we become “unstuck” when what we are resisting is persisting?
- October 4, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm - How to Handle Angry People
This final class ties all the classes together by connecting elements of previous workshops into more practical experiences, using real scenarios of communication breakdowns. Participants will focus primarily on identifying their own conflict behaviors and styles and practice ways to reframe the conversation towards open and constructive dialogue.
Attend one, two or all three classes! No cost to attend but please register via email at: Mediation@Hillsboro-Oregon.gov. Registration deadline: September 18, 2018. Seats are limited.
Classes are instructed by Tsipora Dimant of the Beaverton Dispute Resolution Center and will be held at the Hillsboro Police Department, 250 SE 10th Avenue, Hillsboro.
