The Hillsboro Police Traffic Team has introduced a few more wheels to the unit, specifically two new traffic PIUs (Police Interceptor Utility vehicles). Officer Anthony Silva and Officer Alonzo Garcia will be manning the new vehicles, which contain moving radar, as well as collision-related supplies.
Traffic complaints are by far one of the greatest concerns we hear about from community members. Officers Silva and Garcia will focus on traffic enforcement, in addition to collision investigation, special event support and patrol assistance.
Up until now, our Traffic team has been made up of four motorcycle officers working Monday-Friday during daytime hours. With the addition of the two new traffic officers, coverage will extend to seven days a week during the day until 9 pm, allowing for an expanded focus on stopping speeding drivers and responding to crashes throughout Hillsboro. And just like the motor officers, our additional traffic officers will assist patrol with calls-for-service, when necessary. The team is excited to add these additional resources and discover new areas of traffic enforcement and education, in which they will be invaluable.
Not only will the team be gaining new traffic vehicles, but we are also welcoming our newest motor officer, Kevin Duggan, as he rides in to an existing position. Kevin passed his motor school and has been chomping at the bit to get out on the bike and start his new gig. He will be a fun addition to our veteran motor officer team who cannot wait to show Kevin the ropes and the roads!
