New Hillsboro Venue Grant Offers Facility Support for Local Arts & Cultural Events

2019-20 Community Arts & Culture Grants Application Now Open

Post Date:01/03/2019 12:30 pm

The need for free or low-cost venues for performances, art fairs, and cultural celebrations has been a long standing refrain among local nonprofit cultural organizations. In an effort to help meet this need in our community, the City of Hillsboro is, for the first time, offering Venue Grants for use of the theatre, gallery, and classroom spaces at the Walters Cultural Arts Center on select dates during May and June 2019. The goal of these grants is to not only support arts and culture organizations that serve Hillsboro residents, but also to foster a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community, and provide access to arts and cultural experiences for those who are underserved.

Venue Grants include one rehearsal in the space, audiovisual support, and a facility supervisor on site.  Applicants must plan to operate their own ticketing and marketing for the event. Non-profit arts or culture organizations, as well as individuals or groups representing a cultural community are eligible to apply. Grants will not be awarded for private events. All Venue Grant applications are due by 5 p.m. on January 31, 2019.

The City of Hillsboro is also accepting applications for 2019-2020 Community Arts & Culture Grants. The Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council (HACC) is proud to support and encourage the growth of arts and culture programs that enliven, educate, and inspire Hillsboro communities. Since 2008, the HACC has given out more than $360,000 in grant funding to support local programs and nonprofits that provide these arts and cultural experiences. Nonprofit arts and culture organizations that serve Hillsboro are eligible for funding through this grant program, and organizations with an arts and culture component or partner could also qualify. All Community Arts & Culture Grant applications are due by 5 p.m. on February 22, 2019.

Fundable proposals include, but are not limited to:

  • Community performances, exhibits, art tours, or festivals
  • Youth arts programming, including out-of-school opportunities
  • Increased access to arts and culture for underserved populations
