Hillsboro in 2035: What Should Our Community Look Like?

By Ted Vacek, Chair of the Hillsboro 2035 Oversight Committee

Post Date:03/05/2019

Community members provide input on the Hillsboro 2035 visionStudent internships. More affordable housing. Off-street biking and trail connections.

In 2014, more than 5,000 people contributed ideas like these to create Hillsboro’s 2035 Community Plan. Five years later, the 2035 Plan’s outreach team, made up of community members and stakeholders, is working to reach all pockets of Hillsboro to add more voices with new perspectives.

2035 Plan: The Five-Year Update

Starting this month and continuing throughout spring and summer, this community engagement effort will inform a five-year update of the Hillsboro 2035 Community Plan — which helps to keep the plan current, forward-thinking, and relevant.

More than 75 percent of the 2035 Action Plan is complete. Your voice and your suggestions are needed to help ensure that Hillsboro continues to improve, innovate, and plan ahead for our shared future.

Want to read what the 2035 Plan already includes? You can find the Plan online at Hillsboro2035.org, which may help you think of other ideas you want to see added.

Have an idea for the 2035 Plan update? Here are easy three ways to share your thoughts this year:

On Your Phone or Computer
Use the online survey to tell us your ideas. Don’t be shy, we’re listening.

In an Idea Drop Box
Later this year, you will be able to write down your idea and drop it in an “idea drop box” at coffee shops and other public spaces, such as Brookwood Library, Shute Park Library, SHARC, and the Hillsboro Community Senior Center.

At a Community Event
Outreach teams will strike up conversations with you and discuss your ideas for the 2035 Plan at events such as the Latino Cultural Festival or Celebrate Hillsboro, Hillsboro Hops home games, and other community gathering places.

We want you to think big, bold, and differently! We want your ideas that are creative and innovative! Tell us how Hillsboro can stay a leader in livability.
