Council Conversation: Your Priorities Are Our City's Priorities
By the Hillsboro City Council
What matters most to you, to your family, and to our 101,900+ neighbors? It's a question the City Council works to answer each year as they focus the City's efforts.
What matters most to you, to your family, and to our 101,900+ neighbors?
It’s a question we, as a City Council, work to answer each year so we can focus our City’s efforts on what’s most important to our entire community. We accomplish that by selecting our annual priorities and guiding principles.
Listening to community members and City employee recommendations, reading the Hillsboro 2035 Community Plan and other sources, we assess what areas need the most attention.
In 2019, we selected City priorities that include:
Supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion City policy-making and service delivery
Encouraging market-rate and affordable housing, and partnerships to address homelessness
Advancing safe transportation for all modes
Using crime statistics analysis and data-driven solutions to become an even safer city
Developing municipal broadband
Supporting cultural arts organizations
These priorities are not ranked or ordered by importance — and they’re not an exhaustive list of all that the City works to accomplish. They give City employees guidance on where to focus their time and talents.
City priorities we championed in 2018 — and will continue to champion in 2019 — include:
Being a Tree City USA community
Planning the Crescent Park Greenway
Supporting the development of entrepreneurs
Leading and promoting sustainability initiatives
Expanding workforce training opportunities
Continuing to support the revitalization of Downtown Hillsboro
We also selected guiding principles this year, such as focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion within the City, operating with transparency and openness, and listening to and engaging with community members during the decision-making process.
