Free Supervised Play Now Available to Help Parents Attend City Council Meetings
Children can play at Outdoors In for free during City Council Meetings
Get more involved in your community without paying for a babysitter.
Beginning September 3, the City of Hillsboro will offer free, supervised play for children ages 3 to 11 years old during City Council meetings and work sessions.
Providing up to two hours of free supervision at Outdoors In (located just steps away from the front doors of the Civic Center) during City Council meetings will remove a barrier for parents and guardians. It also will help fulfill the City of Hillsboro’s commitment to fostering civic engagement.
Outdoors In will remain open on City Council meeting evenings from 5:45 pm until the end of the evening’s public meetings, or 9:15 pm, whichever comes first.
Up to two hours of free supervision will be provided (but no more than two hours).
Parents and guardians must remain onsite at the Civic Center, attending the City Council meeting.
Parents must provide a mobile phone number or other contact details in the event there's a need.
Children must be self-sufficient in using the restroom, able to communicate their need to use the restroom, and able to dress themselves.
The City will strive to have one bilingual (English and Spanish) employee, depending on availability.
Please, no food or drink is permitted in Outdoors In. A water fountain is available on site. Parents should ensure their child has eaten before arriving.
Please keep children who are sick at home, as well as children with injuries that prevent them from safely engaging in Outdoors In offerings.
Staff should be provided with information at drop-off for children with disabilities so that the child can be provided with the most comfortable environment possible.
Attend the Equity Work Session on September 3
You can utilize the free supervised play program to attend the City Council's second work session about Hillsboro's Draft Equity Statement. The work session is Tuesday, September 3 at 6 pm, followed by the City Council meeting at 7 pm.
