Washington County Arts Alliance to fund catalog printing for the 9th Annual Washington County Artists Open Studio Tour in October 2018.  Participating artists open their studios to the public, meeting audiences and answering questions about their creative processes.

Write Around Portland
Write Around Portland to hold two creative writing workshops, in partnership with social service agencies in Hillsboro. The workshops will culminate in the publication of participants’ writing in a professionally designed book and a community reading where participants will share their stories with audience members.

Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington

Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington for artist residencies in Hillsboro’s McKinney Elementary next school year as a part of the arts-integrated literacy program.

 

2018- 19 Core Support Grants

Bag&Baggage Productions
Bag&Baggage Productions is the only theatre company in the Pacific Northwest with a focus on producing major adaptations of classic dramatic literature. They remove barriers that often prevent students from experiencing live theatre through their PASSPORT program, which offers free tickets to all high school students from the four-county region comprised of Washington, Tillamook, Yamhill, and Columbia Counties.

HART Theatre
HART Theatre is in the business of providing quality community theatre and entertainment to Hillsboro residents and the surrounding areas. HART is also dedicated to providing educational opportunities, chances for community involvement through volunteer activity, and support for cultural diversity.

Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra
Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra provides an affordable and family-friendly cultural experience in Washington County with three concerts per year. Formed in 2001 by a group of fewer than 30 amateur musicians, the Orchestra has grown to include over 70 members from a wide range of musical backgrounds. An all-volunteer organization, HSO has developed a long-range strategic plan to maintain the existence of the Orchestra for many years to come.

Oregon Chorale
The Oregon Chorale is an adult choir based in Hillsboro that promotes beautiful, provocative choral music at the highest level while keeping concerts affordable, accessible and fun for its audiences. Founded in 1985, the chorale supports local youth through its Emerging Voices program, music scholarships, and collaboration with local youth choirs.

Sequoia Gallery + Studios

Sequoia Gallery + Studios is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting fine art.  They offer a variety of programs and events that teach and display art; provide an environment for interaction and creative ideas; and provide opportunities for artists’ exhibitions, outreach, and programs.

Westside Youth Choir

Westside Youth Choir has enriched the lives of young people in a nurturing atmosphere by teaching the joys of singing. Several age- and ability-based choirs are available for all young people with a desire to sing, learn, and perform.

Bag&Baggage Productions

Bag&Baggage Productions to support production-related expenses, including artists’ wages for Death and the Maiden in March 2018 at the new Vault Theater.

Hillsboro Community Youth Choir

Hillsboro Community Youth Choir to pay for three quality choral specialists to work with the youth singers ahead of each concert as well as rehearsal rental space.

Hillsboro Farmers' Market
Hillsboro Farmers’ Market to provide free live music at their downtown Saturday markets throughout the season. Funds will be used to pay the musicians.

Hillsboro Schools Foundation
Hillsboro Schools Foundation to sponsor the creation of a collaborative temporary art installations in conjunction with the Hillsboro School District and neighbors. The “Love Tapestries” will be installed on fences and around the school – celebrating love, inclusion, kindness and empathy.

Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra
Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra to purchase timpani (or kettledrums) and other percussion equipment needed for the Orchestra’s upcoming performance. The Orchestra plans to offer the use of the equipment to the school where their rehearsals takes place in exchange for storage space.

Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market
Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market to fund the Sandy Farmer Stage, which highlights local musical talent in the center of the Who's on 3rd art and music area of the Tuesday Night Market.

Masque Alfresco
Masque Alfresco to perform Tartuffe, Moliere’s famous commedia dell’arte satire featuring slapstick antics, colorful stock characters, and period costumes, updated with current social and political jokes. These August outdoor performances are family-friendly and free

Oregon Chorale
Oregon Chorale to fund two concerts in Hillsboro in June 2018, featuring Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 5 in A Flat Major with professional orchestral musicians and vocal soloists.

Sequoia Gallery + Studios
Sequoia Gallery + Studios, in partnership with M&M Market, will begin a pilot program to instruct children and their parents in linoleum block printing.

STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy
STAGES Performing Arts Youth Academy to hire a website designer to create a more user-friendly, comprehensive and maintainable website for STAGES.

Washington County Arts Alliance
Washington County Arts Alliance to fund for the printing of a catalog and lawn signs to promote the 8th Annual Washington County Artists Open Studio Tour. The tour will take place in October 2018, where artists in Hillsboro and through-out the County will open their studios to the public.

The Oregon Chorale is a 65-voice symphonic chorus based in Hillsboro, Oregon dedicated to performing beautiful, provocative choral music at the highest level while keeping concerts affordable, accessible and fun for its audiences. Founded in 1985, the Chorale is open for audition to anyone ages 18 and up, but is also an active force of outreach to young musicians in the Hillsboro area through internships and music scholarships.

Bag&Baggage Productions

Bag&Baggage Productions to provide funding for the Pacific Northwest premiere of The Drowning Girls, one of Canada’s most celebrated recent theatrical works, which tells the story of three women brutally murdered by the same man, exploring themes of domestic violence and redemption.

Creative Hillsboro

Creative Hillsboro to create a popup makerspace each week at the Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market where attendees will make projects related to the weekly market theme. The Artosaur will promote the makerspace and serve as its mascot.

HART Theatre
HART Theatre in support of two musical productions in their 2016-17 Season, including Orphan Train and The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd. Funds will support the director, musical director, choreographer, vocal coach, and musicians.

Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market
Hillsboro Tuesday Night Market in support of the Sandy Farmer Stage musicians. The Sandy Farmer Stage is at the Who’s on 3rd art and music area of the Tuesday Night Market and highlights local musical talent.

M&M Marketplace
M&M Marketplace to support The Frida Project, building connections between the audiences of the Tuesday Night Market and the M&M Marketplace in the heart of the Latino community. Local artists will paint a panel per week at the Tuesday Market Who’s on 3rd area celebrating the landscapes and people of Oregon and Mexico. At the end of the project the panels will be installed at the M&M Marketplace with a public celebration.

Masque Alfresco
Masque Alfresco in support of Trickster of Seville, merging Moliere and Goldoni's versions of the Don Juan Legend. Featuring commedia dell'arte traditions, including slapstick antics, period costumes, with contemporary social and political jokes, these free performances will take place at the Hillsboro Civic Plaza.

Teatro Milagro
Teatro Milagro to support their newest play for middle schools, Mijita Fridita, a story of a young Frida Kahlo, and present it to Evergreen Middle School students accompanied by Journey’s, a bilingual arts education residency.

Sequoia Gallery + Studios
Sequoia Gallery + Studios in support of the expansion of Plein Air @ Washington County to a 5-day event. The event includes four days of painting opportunities; a reception at Bag&Baggage and an exhibition of work at Sequoia Gallery.

Washington County Arts Alliance
Washington County Arts Alliance in support of the 7th Annual Washington County Artists’ Open Studio tour in October 2016. During Open Studio, over 40 artists open their studios to the public, who can visit, see art demonstrations and purchase art directly from artists. The Open Studio Tour is free.

Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition
Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition in support of the new Tour de Arts Bike Ride, a free, fun event for individuals and families on bicycles to discover art and artists within Hillsboro.

With their commitment to professional, text-based theatre, they make Hillsboro a renowned theatre destination for diverse audiences from Washington County and beyond.

Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra 
Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra, begun in 2001, provides an affordable and family-friendly cultural experience in Washington County with three concerts per year. The Orchestra, which is open to all interested musicians, includes players from high school age to retirement with diverse backgrounds including physicians, engineers, retirees, stay-at-home moms all with one common thread: the passion for playing symphonic music.
