The City of Hillsboro is seeking submissions of two-dimensional works of art to become part of Hillsboro’s Public Art Collection. Limited edition archival reproductions of the original will then be presented as gifts to dignitaries visiting Hillsboro and during the official City trips throughout the world. Designating artwork as an official gift emphasizes Hillsboro’s pride in its creative community.Selection Criteria
Existing two-dimensional artwork is eligible for submission. The artwork should represent the characteristic landscape, city views, people and/or places of Hillsboro. The purchase price cannot exceed $750.
Finalists will be selected for an exhibition in the City of Hillsboro Civic Center auditorium where the City Council meets. The work for purchase will be selected from the finalists on view. The finalists’ work is for sale, and can be purchased by City departments or the public. (Note: If the work is selected as a finalist, it must be delivered by January 10, 2020, to the Walters Cultural Arts Center ready to hang. Opening on October 1, the Walters Cultural Arts Center is accepting applications from both individuals and groups for its 2020-21 gallery season. The Walters’ Gallery seeks to display original fine art and strives to represent a diverse selection of both emerging and established voices and perspectives in the arts community. Artwork should be engaging to a broad public audience of all ages (including young children) and suitable for display in a multi-function space that also hosts workshops, weddings, meetings, and other private and public events. The Walters’ Gallery provides a public showplace for the arts and is a vibrant representation of the City of Hillsboro’s commitment to arts and culture.

Call for Submissions: Artwork for Civic Center Elevator Doors
The City of Hillsboro wants to create a welcoming entry to City services. Vibrant artwork on the doors of the elevators of the Civic Center will showcase the City’s creative spirit and welcome its diverse community. The central elevators are at the active core of City Hall, with thousands of people coming and going. Waiting at the elevators, people have the time to enjoy the artwork.
Two artists will be selected to create artwork for a set of three elevators. The artwork can be in any medium that can be reproduced as a vinyl wrap on the elevator doors. The commission to the artist is $2,500, inclusive of all costs to design the artwork. Reproduction costs will be paid by the City. All artists in Oregon and SW Washington are welcome to apply.
Artists should submit up to 8 images of past artwork. After the artists are chosen, they will be asked to create work specifically for the elevator doors. The artists will be given the proportions and layout of the doors, and their artwork will be reproduced to fit the doors.
Selected artists will receive a fee of $2,500 to create the design.
