Mayor Jerry Willey has announced the selection of the 2015 artwork for the Mayor’s Gift, Rood Bridge Park with Mid Century Modern Style, by Tualatin artist Anna Lancaster. The colorful oil painting on canvas was selected from 47 entries responding to the call for artwork that represents the characteristic landscape, city views or landmarks of Hillsboro. This year, the selection for the Mayor’s Gift was made based on viewing the twelve finalists on display at the Civic Center auditorium, rather than a PowerPoint show.

Lancaster’s paintings are characterized by rich color and textured surface created by using both a brush and a pallet knife to apply the oil paint. She hopes that the tactile qualities of her paintings stimulate the senses and touch the emotions.

Lancaster created the painting at the 2014 Hillsboro Plein Air painting competition sponsored by the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council. Lancaster noted, “I was drawn to paint that inspiring landscape scene of the stone foot bridge, the scenic Rood Bridge Park landmark. It is one of the first images that comes to mind for all of us who enjoy the respite and community recreation at Rood Bridge Park.”
