2019 HillsDOer Day

Mark your calendars for HillsDOer Day! The 5th annual city-wide day of service will be Saturday, October 5. See below for more information about this year’s volunteer projects.

There are several projects being hosted as a part of this community-wide event.  To sign up to volunteer at any of our HillsDOer Day Projects, please contact the organizations directly through the information provided below. If you are interested in more information about attending or hosting a volunteer project, please email our HillsDOer Day Team or call 503-615-3471.

HillsDOer Day is about coming together and taking ownership of our community. It’s about giving back, getting to know our neighbors, and embracing our hometown pride. It’s about creating an involved, civically-engaged community where every day is a HillsDOer Day!

 

2019 HillsDOer Day Volunteer Projects

Clean Up the Club!

Organization: Inukai Family Boys & Girls Club 
Project Location: 560 SE 3rd Avenue, Hillsboro, OR 97123
Project Start/End Time: 10 am to 3 pm
Volunteers Needed: 10
Project Description: Join us in cleaning and organizing our indoor storage space as well as cleaning around the outdoor park area behind our building and parking lot space. The Club, located near downtown Hillsboro, offers a host of after school and summer programs for youth ages 6-18. Inukai Family Boys & Grils Club is a nonprofit youth development and community service agency serving an average of 200 youth per day, with low-income and people of color making up around 80% of the population served.

Beautify Frances Street Park

Organization: City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation
Project Location: Frances Street Park, 6205 SE Frances St, Hillsboro, OR 97123
Project Start/End Time: 9 am to 12 pm
Volunteers Needed: 50+
Project Description: Join us at beautiful Frances Street Park as we work together to remove invasive weeds, plant native bulbs, clean park amenities and beautify garden beds. This is a great project for families and groups. All ages welcome, tools provided.

Spruce Up the Yard at Saving Grace Maternity Home 

Organization: Saving Grace Maternity Home
Project Location: 6789 SE Lois Street, Hillsboro, OR 97123
Project Start/End Time: 9 am to 12 pm
Volunteers Needed:10 
Project Description: Help beautify Saving Grace Maternity Home! Outdoor yard maintenance will include trimming trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, planting a new flower bed, mowing, edging and power washing the front sidewalk. Saving Grace has some yard tools to share, but would appreciate volunteers bringing extras!

Revamp the HomePlate Youth Services Hillsboro Drop-In Center

Organization: HomePlate Youth Services
Project Location: First Congregational Church, 494 E Main Street, Hillsboro, OR 97123
Project Start/End Time: 10 am to 2 pm
Volunteers Needed: 10 to 15
Project Description: Every Thursday we hold a Drop-in resource center for youth experiencing homelessness or housing instability in the basement of this church. While we do our best to make the space nice for the youth, we don't often have the time or resources to do a deep clean, or organize the donations that we have. That's where YOU come in. On the HillsDOer day of service, volunteers will help us clean and organize the kitchen where we serve meals, the resources closets where we store clothes and hygiene items and the outreach office where we meet with youth. Put on your comfy clothes and get ready to dig in on some serious organization.

Exterior Painting at Terra Buena Terrace

Organization: Rebuilding Together Washington County, Inc.
Project Location: Terra Buena Terrace Manufactured Home Park, 1901 SE Minter Bridge Road, Hillsboro, OR 97123
Project Start/End Time: 9 am to 4 pm
Volunteers Needed: 80
Project Description: This HillsDOer Day we will paint the exterior body and trim of 4 manufactured homes Terra Buena Terrace Manufactured Home Park. There will also be light yard work consisting of weeding, trimming etc. If time allows, we will also paint homeowner’s small sheds to match house per park rules. Some tasks will be done ahead of time such as pressure washing of each home, & siding and skirting repair if needed. Some small interior repairs, as needed.

Clean Up Downtown Hillsboro

Organization: Hillsboro Downtown Partnership with SOLVE
Project Location: 238 SE 2nd Avenue, Hillsboro, OR 97123
Project Start/End Time: 9 am to 12 pm, 1 pm to 4 pm
Volunteers Needed: 10 per shift
Project Description:
Join your neighbors as we work on a variety of activities to pick up trash, remove graffiti, cleanup the planting strips, and maintain the amenities in Downtown Hillsboro. This is a great way to show your support for our locally-owned small businesses of Downtown while making Hillsboro an even better place to live, shop, play, and do business. Come prepared for working in any weather by wearing comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty and closed-toed shoes. Please bring a refillable water bottle and work gloves if you have them.

Indoor Book Cleaning at the Brookwood Library

Organization: City of Hillsboro Public Library
Project Location: 2850 NE Brookwood Parkway, Hillsboro, OR
Project Start/End Time: 9 am to 12 pm
Volunteers Needed: 20 volunteers, ages 10 and up
Project Description: We'll be sprucing up the library--really making it shine! During this service activity we'll be cleaning and tidying collections areas in the library--giving the books a good scrubbing and organizing the sections that get the most use. Enjoy a journey through your favorite genre while getting them spic and span for all those who read them.
