Who are we?
SPLASH is a group of energetic, enthusiastic and committed students who meet during the school year to learn about and help improve their community. SPLASH members will develop leadership qualities, see community leaders in action by visiting various Hillsboro organizations and use the skills and experience they gain to also serve the community.
What does SPLASH do?
SPLASH is a way to connect Hillsboro middle school students with their community. Our crew learns behind the scenes operations of various Hillsboro organizations. SPLASH members also do service projects like planting flowers and pulling weeds in parks, serving lunch at the Senior Center, and assisting with various Hillsboro Parks & Recreation events.
SPLASH meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 6 - 8 pm starting in November and going through May. Meetings will be held at various locations throughout Washington County, so members can see community leaders in action and learn about how different organizations operate. Some places we may visit include: Hillsboro Police Department, Hillsboro Fire Department, Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC), and the Washington County Jail. You are responsible for your own transportation to and from the meetings and service projects.
If you, or someone you know, would like to be involved in this awesome youth program, a SPLASH application must be submitted in full by Friday, October 6. (No late applications will be accepted!) If you qualify for an interview, you will be contacted for a group interview. Interviews will be conducted during lunchtime at your Middle School a couple weeks after the application deadline. As always, we are only accepting qualified applicants, so be sure your application and interview are top notch.
