Code Compliance

The Code Compliance Team helps maintain and promote the quality of our community by administering a fair and unbiased code compliance program based on City of Hillsboro Municipal Codes and Zoning Codes. Our efforts help enhance livability throughout Hillsboro.

In addition to ensuring code compliance the Team also provides resources on graffiti removal and abatementvacant property registration and works closely with City Building and Planning Departments on issues relating to permittingzoning and construction standards

Community Enhancement Team

The Community Enhancement Team (CET), is committed to working with Hillsboro's residential and business partners to facilitate community excellence through safety education, crime prevention, resource assistance and problem-solving. CET works in collaboration with patrol officers to foster new community relationships, while reducing crime and enhancing neighborhood livability.

CET offers a number of community programs including Citizens' AcademyNational Night Out, Neighborhood Watch, Mediation, Youth Services and Volunteer Opportunities.

The Detective Division is comprised of dedicated, experienced and highly-trained men and women skilled in investigating crimes related to homicide, arson, child abuse, fraud and internet based crimes, drugs, robbery, sexual assault and domestic violence. Our detectives also represent HPD on many regional multi-agency teams including Major Crimes, and WIN.

The team is supported by the Property and Evidence Unit with personnel trained in the collection, preservation and presentation of all types of evidence and scientific data to assist investigators in the processing of crime scenes.

The Canine Unit has a rich history and serves as ambassadors to both the City of Hillsboro and the law enforcement community. Our Canine teams are quick to respond to community functions and enjoy allowing the community to take ownership of each dog team, as is evident by the fact that most dogs are known by name when working out in the community.

The Unit is assigned to the Patrol Division and consists of dogs trained in tracking, narcotics detection and those dual certified in both tracking and narcotics.

The Patrol Division is comprised of officers and supervisors dedicated to responding to traditional calls for service 24/7. The Canine Unit and Reserve Officer Unit is also part of the Patrol Division. In addition to regular patrol duties, officers put an emphasis on community problem solving and proactive efforts to address crime, fear of crime and neighborhood livability.

Code Compliance officers and Cadets are often called upon to supplement the patrol force by assisting with non-hazardous radio calls and traffic control.

Professional Standards & Reports

To further enhance accountability and transparency, the Hillsboro Police Department has a specialized unit called the Office of Professional Standards. This specialized unit oversees:

  • Recruiting and hiring
  • Policy and procedure
  • Training
  • Internal affairs investigations
  • IA Pro employee tracking database

Property & Evidence 

The Property & Evidence Unit seeks to offer professional and highly efficient services to the public through the return or disposal of property while maintaining the integrity of evidence for court. If you have had property seized for safekeeping or as evidence, you should have been given a property receipt at the time of seizure. Outlined on the bottom of the receipt is information pertinent to retrieving your property.

The Records Division plays an integral role in the operation of the Police Department. The primary function of the Division is to provide customer service to the public, partner agencies and police officers through the coordination, research and dissemination of information in accordance with the law.

Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week our staff are available to assist with Records Requests & Fees, Background Checks, Vehicle Release Information and Frequently Asked Questions.

 The Traffic Unit enforces traffic laws, investigates crashes, and responds to traffic related matters, including parking enforcement throughout the community. In addition, the Unit conducts a number of special enforcement techniques related to speed enforcement, pedestrian safety and seat belt use. Traffic officers also evaluate routine and selective traffic enforcement activities to better deploy resources and enhance public safety.

Youth Services - School Resource Officers 

The Youth Services Unit - School Resource Officers (SROs), work in collaboration with the Hillsboro School District, and focus on maintaining a safe and positive learning environment for all students. The SROs provide classroom instruction in law and justice awareness, personal safety and utilize drug and gang delinquency prevention tools. In addition, SRO's are responsible for enforcing Oregon Truancy Law.
