The Hillsboro Police K-9 Unit has a rich history and serves as ambassadors to both the City of Hillsboro  and the law enforcement community. Our K-9 Unit is quick to respond to community functions and enjoys allowing the community to take ownership of each dog team, as is evident by the fact that most dogs are known by name when working out in the community.

The K-9 Unit is assigned to the Patrol Division and consists of dogs trained in tracking, narcotics detection and those dual certified in both tracking and narcotics. Before hitting the road, each canine and handler must complete, at minimum, 10 weeks of basic training and meet the Oregon Police Canine Association Standards. In addition, each team trains weekly to maintain their skills.
