About Us

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue is on the scene for some of life’s most difficult events. We approach each emergency with expertise and professionalism, but also with sincere compassion and concern for the people involved. We are trained to save lives and protect property. We strive to help our community be as safe a place as possible.

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue is a career organization of 122 personnel led by Fire Chief David Downey. Our department prides itself on providing highly trained staff with state of the art equipment to serve residents, visitors and businesses with around the clock emergency fire, paramedic and life safety outreach services from five fire stations located throughout the 24.25 square mile area of the City of Hillsboro. Hillsboro Fire and Rescue is committed to providing a high level of professionalism and excellence in every aspect of the services we provide.

The City of Hillsboro’s population increased incrementally for many years, but has exploded in the last two decades to over 101,000 residents. This growth is primarily due to Hillsboro’s commercial and high tech industrial growth, making the Hillsboro an economic powerhouse locally, regionally and globally.

Putting out fires is only one of the many services we provide. Because Hillsboro Fire and Rescue is an all-hazard/all-risk department, any call to 9-1-1 often results in a dispatch of our team. A call for an ambulance, for example, will often result with a fire apparatus arriving prior to an ambulance. Our firefighters are trained Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics and deliver up-to-date emergency medical services. Our apparatus are strategically placed throughout Hillsboro to ensure a rapid response is achievable when time is of the essence.

When we are not responding to emergency calls, we are in the community talking about life safety and fire prevention; ranging from a pre-school class to a senior citizen group. Prevention is our top priority, helping people identify ways they can improve their own safety and reduce risk. We offer station tours and onsite for presentations at schools and businesses. At your request, we can also visit your home and assess safety risks and emergency preparedness, including smoke alarms, fire extinguishers and escape planning.

Structure fire incidents are on the decline in Hillsboro. We believe our total fire reduction is the result of our great community partnerships and our collective commitment to make safety our number one priority.
