About Us

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue is on scene for some of life’s most difficult events. We approach each emergency with expertise and professionalism, with sincere compassion and concern for those involved. We are trained to save lives and protect property, striving to help our community be as safe a place as possible.

We are a career organization of 122 personnel, led by Fire Chief David Downey. Our department provides highly-trained staff with state-of-the-art equipment to serve community members, visitors, and businesses with emergency fire, paramedic, and life safety outreach services from five fire stations throughout the 24.25 square mile area of Hillsboro. We are committed to providing professionalism and excellence in every aspect of the services we provide.

Hillsboro’s population rapidly grew to more than 101,000 residents, primarily because of commercial and high-tech industrial growth, making Hillsboro an economic powerhouse.

Putting out fires is only one of the many services we provide; we are an all-hazard, all-risk department. A call to 9-1-1 often results in a dispatch of our team. A call for an ambulance, for example, will likely result in a fire apparatus arriving prior to an ambulance. Our firefighters are trained emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics, delivering up-to-date emergency medical services. Our apparatus are strategically placed to ensure a rapid response.

When we are not responding to emergency calls, we're in the community talking about life safety and fire prevention. Prevention is priority, helping identify ways to improve safety and reduce risk. At your request, we can visit your home to assess safety risks and emergency preparedness, including smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and escape planning.

Structure fire incidents are declining in Hillsboro. We believe our total fire reduction is the result of great community partnerships and our collective commitment to make safety our number one priority.
