Community Development

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue plays an integrated role in community development, coordinating with applicants and other departments to review plans and provide support from land use, to site development, to building construction. We do not currently require permits or charge fees for our involvement in the community development process. All new construction permits are issued by Hillsboro Building Department

If you are installing an above ground fuel tank over 1,000 gallons in either individual or aggregate quantities you will need to submit a permit application to the Oregon Office of State Fire Marshal, which will require a signature from Hillsboro Fire and Rescue Department and Hillsboro Planning Department. Please contact our office at 503-681-6166 for submittal instructions.

Hillsboro Fire and Rescue has developed standards to assist community development applicants, architects, engineers, contractors, and the general public in understanding common requirements. The information in the standards applies to typical circumstances and may not address all situations. We have adopted the 2019 Oregon Fire Code as amended by the City of Hillsboro HMC 11.28.010.
