Internal Movement
Monica Catalan | Shute Park Library
A series of mixed media works that explore the idea of transition, presence, and internal movement. Each piece evokes a quiet energy, centering around circular or portal-like forms that suggest connection and renewal. Through fluid color and layered techniques, the works reflect a search for balance between the organic and the constructed, the intuitive and the intentional.
Pulling Secrets From Paper: The Art of Marbling
Liz Walker | Brookwood Library
Beaverton artist Liz Walker showcases the ancient—and once closely guarded—art of marbled paper with a modern twist: transforming it into finished paintings.
Paper marbling is an aqueous surface design technique that creates patterns by floating color on a viscous solution called size, then manipulating it with a stylus or rake before transferring it to an absorbent surface like paper or canvas. Each print is a one-of-a-kind monotype. Liz uses marbling as an integral part of her painting process, seeking out unusual patterns and color combinations that please the eye. She overlays subject matter—using acrylic paint and line work—onto the patterned surface, revealing only fragments of the mysterious marbling beneath.
