Project Overview

The City of Hillsboro was awarded a $1 million grant from Metro Regional Government to complete preliminary designs on a pedestrian bridge over NE Brookwood Parkway.

The bridge would safely connect the newly constructed Crescent Park Greenway trail on the west side of NE Brookwood Parkway (south of U.S. Highway 26), to the future trail on the east side (near Top Golf), which will eventually connect to the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex. See a map of the location.

This phase of the project will define:

  • what a crossing would look like
  • where it could be placed
  • how people will get up and over the bridge

This preliminary phase funded by Metro will conclude with the selection of a preferred bridge alignment and bridge design.

The bridge design process began with six concepts that were evaluated based on technical analysis, cost, environmental considerations, and community feedback.

Current Status

After the second project open house and community survey in January 2026, the Crescent Arch and Organic Truss designs were identified as the leading options to move forward.

The Parks & Recreation Commission selected the Crescent Arch design during the May 28 Commission meeting based on strong community support for the design and its favorable construction cost.

To complete this phase of the project, the consultant will now advance the design of the bridge to 30 percent and provide a cost estimate for full construction of the bridge and the approaches leading up to the bridge.

Future phases of the Bridge Over Brookwood Project will move forward if funding is secured and additional project details are finalized. Updates on next steps will be shared as they become available.

Bridge & Trail Significance

The Crescent Park Greenway trail is part of a planned network of regional trails that will connect communities from Gresham to Forest Grove. See the Regional trails system plan map. (Cresent Park Greenway is #13 on the map.)

Past Open Houses

Open House #1: Bridge Alignment

Hosted in October 2025 at Hidden Creek Community Center, community members were invited to review four high-level concepts that show potential bridge alignments.

See a handout with details about each alignment option.

Open House #2: Bridge Design

Hosted in January 2026 at the Hillsboro Community Senior Center, the open house featured:

  • A conceptual project timeline that shows how the project could move from planning through construction.
  • The selected bridge and trail alignment, known as the Locally Preferred Alignment (LPA), which was developed based on feedback from the first open house.
  • Potential landscape elements for the future bridge, including options such as boardwalks, signage, and lighting.
  • Six bridge concept types that were developed using input from the first open house.
