Description: The Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department’s Cultural Arts Program seeks artists and arts, cultural, and educational exhibiting organizations to submit proposals for exhibitions of original artwork and/or unique cultural and educational displays. Opportunities are available to exhibit in galleries at either the Walters Cultural Art Center for two-month exhibitions in our upcoming 2026-2027 gallery season. Artists of all ages and abilities, as well as organizations with an arts, culture, and/or educational focus are encouraged to apply.

Mural Idea Application

Application Deadline: Sunday, January 11, 2026 at 11:59 pm.

Eligibility: Anyone in the community who has an idea for a new mural may submit their idea through this application. Mural projects must be within the City of Hillsboro. Artists seeking funding or other support for a mural project should submit their request through this form. Property owners, business owners, community organizations seeking funding or other support for a mural project should also apply here.

Description: This application is for suggesting a wall location that could use a mural, submitting a request to connect with an artist, to connect with a property owner or a wall to paint on, and funding or other resources to support your new mural project.

Mural Artist Roster

Application Deadline: Open all year with application review annually in October

Eligibility: Open to mural artists living within 200 miles of Hillsboro, OR

Description: Hillsboro’s Mural Artist Roster is a resource used to connect artists with mural project opportunities, whether the project is presented through the City of Hillsboro or by property or business owners, developers, design firms, schools, private residents, or community organizations. The City of Hillsboro hosts the Mural Artist Roster as a general resource for the community and shares the Roster with anyone who inquires about resources for creating new murals.

The Hillsboro Public Art Program is looking for artists, arts professionals, and arts interested community members to serve on public art project committees.

Project committees serve to guide and advise public art staff in the development of new site-based public art projects, new murals, and new acquisitions. Committee members may be involved in project development, in defining the goals and parameters of a project, in selecting artists, and in reviewing and recommending project designs.

Public art project committees provide a critical role in creating transparency and community-driven processes for growing the Public Art Collection.

Are you an individual performer or a performance group interested in opportunities with Hillsboro Parks & Recreation? 

There are a variety of occasions that come up throughout the year, at events both large and small, that include live music and dance performances.

Performances are a vital part of our community festivals, but also may be needed for a gallery opening or other small reception, a public art dedication, or even on the stage at the City's performing arts venue, the Walters Cultural Arts Center.

When seeking performers for such events, one of our goals is to showcase the diverse and amazing creative talent found throughout Hillsboro and the larger Metro area.

By filling out this form, you'll be added to our performer database which is used throughout the Parks & Recreation Department as a resource when performance opportunities come up throughout the year.

The Walters Cultural Arts Center is the premier arts center in Hillsboro and houses a 200 hundred seat theater, gallery, and four classrooms, including a ceramic wheel room, and outdoor areas. We offer classes for children and adults, as well as family classes in a wide range of mediums.

If you are interested in teaching at the Walters, please submit a Teaching Artist Interest Form as well as Class Proposals Form for each class. Interest and submissions are accepted throughout the year and reviewed on an ongoing basis. If there is mutual interest, we will follow up with an interview. Most of our teaching artists are independent contractors, but background checks are required.
